Parent Education

Seminars

At Beehive Academy, we believe that supporting children also means giving the adults in their lives access to reliable information, practical strategies, and opportunities to ask questions. Our Parent Education Seminars are open to all parents and caregivers—not just families currently receiving services at Beehive.

Seminars are designed and presented by our trained professionals, including Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs), Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs), Occupational Therapy professionals, and Master’s-level educators. Each seminar focuses on an important topic related to child development, communication, behavior, learning, social development, or family life.

During each seminar, we:

  • Review current research and explain what it means for families.

  • Discuss why the topic is important to a child’s development and well-being.

  • Provide practical strategies, options, and protocols families can use at home.

  • Help parents understand how to apply recommendations to everyday situations.

  • Finish with an open question-and-answer period so families can discuss their individual concerns.

Our goal is to make new research, teaching methods, and child-development information understandable and useful for everyday families. These seminars are appropriate for new parents, experienced parents, grandparents, foster parents, family members, babysitters, teachers, caregivers, and anyone who regularly works with or cares for children.

Our Current Seminar

Current Seminar:

Impact of Screens and Social Media on Child Development

Our first seminar series focuses on one of the most important challenges facing families today: children's use of technology, screens, smartphones, and social media.

Using Jonathan Haidt’s The Anxious Generation as one source of guidance, along with current research, our professionals will discuss how increasing screen and social-media use may affect children's emotional development, academic engagement, attention, friendships, social skills, and everyday childhood experiences.

Technology has become an increasingly powerful influence in children's lives. Parents are often left trying to determine how much is too much, what types of technology may be appropriate, when children are ready for social media or smartphones, and how to establish limits without creating constant conflict.

This seminar is designed to help families better understand these concerns and, most importantly, what they can do about them.

We will discuss practical ways families can reduce unnecessary screen exposure, establish healthy technology boundaries, encourage face-to-face friendships and play, develop hobbies and interests, protect important childhood experiences, and create healthier routines around technology.

The goal is not to frighten parents or simply tell families to eliminate technology. Our goal is to provide parents with research, education, realistic options, and practical strategies so they can make informed decisions for their own children.

Children are growing up in a very different world than previous generations. Parents deserve the information and tools they need to help children navigate it successfully.
