Getting Started at Beehive Academy

There Are Two Ways to Begin

Every family comes to Beehive Academy for a different reason. Some families are looking for clinical therapy that may be covered by insurance, while others are looking for classes, developmental programs, or enrichment opportunities.

That is why we have two separate paths to get started:

Path 1: Therapy & Insurance

For families seeking ABA Therapy, Speech-Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or other clinical services.

Path 2: Classes & Membership

For families interested in reading, math, science, art, music, movement, social development, school readiness, homeschool enrichment, and other Beehive classes.

Families may choose therapy, classes, or both. Our team will help you determine which path is the best place to begin.

PATH 1: THERAPY & INSURANCE

Step 1: Contact Our Intake Team

If you are interested in ABA Therapy, Speech-Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or another clinical service, start by contacting Beehive Academy.

Tell us about your concerns, your child's needs, and the services you are interested in. You do not need to know exactly which therapy your child needs before calling us.

Step 2: Insurance Verification

Provide our intake team with your child's insurance information.

We will help determine:

• Whether we participate with your insurance plan

• Whether the requested service may be covered

• Whether a physician referral is required

• Whether prior authorization is needed

• Whether an evaluation or diagnosis is required

• What other insurance requirements may apply

Beehive Academy works with many major insurance plans and is continually expanding our insurance network.

Insurance coverage is determined by each family's individual insurance plan and cannot be guaranteed.

Step 3: Evaluation & Treatment Recommendations

Depending on the service and your child's needs, the next step may be a screening, consultation, or comprehensive clinical evaluation.

Our clinicians will evaluate your child's individual strengths and needs and discuss their recommendations with you.

When appropriate, an individualized treatment plan will be developed.

Step 4: Authorization & Scheduling

If your insurance company requires authorization before treatment begins, our team will help complete the necessary process and submit the required clinical information.

Once the appropriate requirements are completed, we will work with your family to establish your child's therapy schedule.

Step 5: Begin Therapy

Your child can then begin individualized clinical services with the appropriate Beehive provider and treatment team.

Clinical therapy is separate from Beehive's membership and class programs.

You do not need to purchase a Beehive Membership to receive therapy.

PATH 2: CLASSES & MEMBERSHIP

Step 1: Tour Beehive Academy

Families interested in Beehive classes and developmental programs are encouraged to begin with a tour of Beehive Academy.

You'll have an opportunity to see our learning spaces, learn about our hands-on and teacher-led approach, meet our team, and ask questions about our programs.

We want parents to understand how Beehive works and what makes our developmental and educational approach different before choosing classes.

Step 2: Complimentary Developmental Screening

As part of the class enrollment process, we can offer families a complimentary screening in areas where they may have questions or concerns about their child.

Depending on your child's needs, this may include areas such as:

• Speech and articulation

• Language and communication

• Hearing

• Reading and early literacy

• Math

• Learning and academic readiness

• Fine and gross motor development

• Social and emotional development

• Attention and executive functioning

• Other areas of development or learning

The purpose of the screening is to help us better understand your child and identify areas of strength as well as areas that may benefit from additional instruction or support.

A screening is not the same as a comprehensive clinical evaluation.

Step 3: Review the Results Together

After the screening, we sit down with parents and review what we found.

We explain the results, answer questions, and discuss what the information may mean for your child's learning and development.

If the screening identifies an area that may require a comprehensive clinical evaluation, we will discuss that recommendation with you.

At that point, a family may choose to remain on the Classes & Membership Path, move to the Therapy & Insurance Path, or participate in both when appropriate.

Step 4: Build Your Child's Class Plan

Once we understand your child's current skills, needs, and interests, we review the Beehive Academy class schedule with you and recommend programs that may be a good fit.

Your child's schedule may include a combination of:

• Reading and literacy

• Math

• Science and engineering

• Communication-rich activities

• Social and friendship groups

• Fine and gross motor activities

• Art

• Music and piano

• Theatre

• Ballet, tap, dance, and tumbling

• Executive-functioning activities

• School-readiness programs

• Homeschool enrichment

We don't believe every child needs the same schedule.

Our goal is to create opportunities that support the whole child while considering your child's interests, developmental needs, and your family's schedule.

Step 5: Choose Your Class or Membership Option

After developing your child's recommended schedule, we review the available class, membership, and enrollment options with you.

Together, we consider:

• How often your child will attend

• Which classes you have selected

• Your family's schedule

• Your child's interests and needs

• The enrollment option that works best for your family

• Cost and budget

Classes and Beehive Memberships are private-pay programs and are not billed to health insurance.

Step 6: Enroll & Begin Classes

Once we have developed the plan together, your child is ready to enroll and begin classes at Beehive Academy.

Rather than asking parents to figure out which programs their child needs on their own, our team works collaboratively with families to develop a thoughtful, individualized plan.

Our team includes specialized professionals such as SLPs, OTs, BCBAs, master's-level teachers, reading specialists, and educational and language specialists who bring different areas of expertise to Beehive's whole-child approach.
